What if you don't have time to visit a gym?

For many people, the thought of hitting the gym and huffing and puffing away in front of already-fit people is intimidating, to say the least, and it can encourage us to remain sedentary. Gyms can be busy and confusing, and the price and time commitment can be enough to put off even the most determined exerciser. We all want to look our best and be healthy, yet we find excuses to put off our workouts. There are ways to get fit without ever setting foot inside a gym.

If the cost of a gym membership is what's putting you off, then use what's around you to get in a workout. Go for a jog or a walk in your local park, or in your neighborhood if it is safe to do so. While walking, you can fit in some errands, do some shopping, and visit friends- that's multitasking at its best. If you like to use equipment in your workouts, but don't have the money to buy it, use things like water jugs or canned food for weights, and add more physical activity by taking the stairs wherever possible.

If you want to get fit and trim but don't have the time to go to the gym, combine your exercise with a healthy dose of fun. A game of football can increase your overall fitness and add to your social life- if you're enjoying it, working out seems like a pleasure instead of a chore. If you can't summon the motivation on your own, enlist a like-minded friend and plan your workouts with them. Joining an aerobics class or sports team can be another way to interact while getting fit.

If you prefer the great indoors, trying some of the sports-centric games for the various gaming consoles can help you have so much fun that you forget you're working out. Games like EA Sports Active and Wii Fit are so addictive, that the time just flies! Fitness DVDs are another great way to get a fantastic workout without leaving your home. There are videos for every size, shape and fitness level, so no more excuses!

No matter what you choose, there are plenty of alternatives when you don't have the time or money to go to the gym. Be creative, be patient, and be committed- but don't forget to have fun on your journey!
